IPC Health Statement of Support for the Voice

IPC Health supports an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Australian Constitution. After consultation with our community members and our Aboriginal community controlled organisation partners, we lend our support for the Voice as well as the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

While we acknowledge that our communities hold diverse views on this issue, we recognise that the Voice is an important first step towards the realisation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart which calls for VOICE. TREATY. TRUTH. in that order. It invites all Australians to recognise the sovereignty, strength and pride of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and calls for all of us to work together for a better future.

We recognise and respect the diligent and thorough community consultation and codesign process that created the Uluru Statement from the Heart. We must now amplify this message and uplift our communities so they can lead the way for much needed and overdue change.

IPC Health acknowledges the continuing and unceded sovereignty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the strength of their 65,000 years of continuous cultural connection, knowledge and wisdom. As a nation, we must address the past and current injustices affecting the quality of life outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The Voice is a practical and evidence-based mechanism for our First Nations people to inform the policies that affect them.
